Afghan and U-S troops raid suspected Taliban camp
Tuesday,October14,2003,6:57 AM

Kandahar, Afghanistan-AP -- U-S and Afghan troops have attacked a suspected Taliban hide-out in southern Afghanistan.

Four Taliban rebels and one Afghan soldier have reportedly died since the raid was launched yesterday. The attack continued into today.

Fighters from the hard-line Muslim militia, which was ousted in late 2001, are believed to have stepped up attacks against government troops, aid workers and U-S-led coalition forces in recent weeks.

Meantime, the United Nations is reporting the al-Qaida terror network and the Taliban are managing to find new sources of funding despite global economic sanctions.

The Chilean ambassador to the U-N says increasingly, the Taliban are turning to drug revenues to pay for their insurgency against Afghanistan's U-S-backed government.
