Kelly died in July 2003 after he was revealed to be the source responsible for the BBC's claim the British government "sexed up" the case for war in Iraq. The Hutton inquiry later ruled Kelly committed suicide by slitting his wrists. However, two paramedics who attended the scene said Sunday they were surprised at the verdict as there was not sufficient blood to suggest he had died as a result of the wound. Paramedic Vanessa Hunt told the Observer: "I just think it is incredibly unlikely that he died from the wrist wound we saw." At a later news conference, fellow paramedic Dave Bartlett said said the Hutton inquiry verdict was a suprise. "I would have thought there would have been more blood over the body if someone had bled to death," he said. A spokesman for Thames Valley Police told the BBC there would be on further investigation into Kelly's death, saying they were "fully satisfied" with the verdict.
