Blast kills 16 near Shi'ite mosque in Bahgdad Tue Feb 28, 2006 12:40 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - At least 16 people were killed and 40 wounded in a blast near a Shi'ite mosque and market north of Baghdad on Tuesday, police said.
The police said it was not clear whether the blast, which occurred right after the evening prayers, was caused by a car bomb or a mortar attack.
Earlier, at least 32 people were killed in three blasts that rocked Baghdad in the morning and at least 80 were wounded.
The bombing of a Shi'ite shrine last week plunged postwar Iraq into its gravest crisis since the U.S.-led invasion, setting off sectarian violence that killed 379 people according to government figures published on Tuesday.
