The poll released early Friday shows Sen. Kerry leading Mr. Bush 48 percent to 43 percent, with eight percent of respondents undecided. A similar poll conducted in early July had Mr. Kerry ahead by two percentage points -- 48 percent to 46 percent, with five percent undecided. The polling organization Zogby America conducted the survey during this week's Democratic National Convention. Despite the media focus on the Democrats' meeting, the poll indicates that support for the Democratic challenger has remained steady. The apparent increase in Mr. Kerry's lead over President Bush, according to the survey, is due to an erosion of support for the Republican incumbent.
