CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (AFP) - Bank of America's bottom line was boosted by strong results from mortgage lending and credit cards, with net earnings jumping 31 percent in the third quarter to 2.92 billion dollars. The company's results, released Tuesday, showed a profit of 1.92 dollars per share, crushing the Wall Street estimate of 1.69 dollars per share. July-September revenues jumped 14 percent from the same quarter a year ago to 9.92 billion dollars, also ahead of Wall Street estimates. The big money center bank attributed the better-than-expected results to strong deposit and loan growth, investment banking and trading results and growth in mortgage and credit card revenue. "Our initiatives to improve the customer experience are paying off as they bring us more of their business," said Kenneth Lewis, chairman and chief executive officer. "Deeper customer relationships and better retention are fueling our strong revenue growth and record profits this quarter." The firm said mortgage banking income increased 203 percent to 666 million dollars and credit card income gained 16 percent to 794 million. Trading account profits increased 146 percent to 175 million dollars.
