Woman fights RIAA subpoena as unconstitutional George Orwell blushing in his grave
By INQUIRER staff: Friday 22 August 2003, 07:56
A WOMAN WENT to court yesterday to fight a subpoena from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with her lawyers claiming that it violates her constitutional rights and her right to privacy.
According to news.com, two lawyers acting on her behalf will claim that the RIAA subpoenas are invasive and using Draconian methods that "would make George Orwell blush".
The individual, who retains her anonymity so far, used Kazaa's file swapping community but she denies that she pirated music.
The motion filed on her behalf in the court is a challenge to an earlier court decision where Verizon was forced to reveal her identity. µ
