Israeli media reports said there were many casualties and some people were killed. The explosion occurred on a main street, said Yakov Borovsky, Haifa police chief. Bodies and wreckage were strewn across the street. Witness said the explosion ripped off the roof of the bus. Other reports said the bus was destroyed in the blast, which occurred in the Carmelia neighborhood at about 2:17 p.m. Rescue officials said several people were injured, some seriously. ``The entire roof was destroyed ... the entire bus went up in flames,'' said a witness who only gave his first name as Dori. It was the first terror attack in Israel since January. Rescue officials said there were at least eight dead at scene. The bus apparently stopped and then the explosion occured. ``There are dozens of casualties, among them seriously injured,'' Avi Zohar, a rescues services spokesman, told Israeli television. Some were being treated at the scene.
