Reported random shootings at Iraqis probed BAGHDAD, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Authorities in Baghdad are investigating a video purporting to show security guards randomly shooting at Iraqi civilians.
The video first appeared on a Internet Web site linked unofficially to Aegis Defense Services, the Sunday Telegraph said.
It has sparked concern that unregulated private security companies could be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Iraqis.
The video appeared to show security guards opening fire with automatic rifles at civilian cars. All of the shooting incidents apparently took place on "route Irish," a road that links the airport to Baghdad and a frequent site of insurgent attacks.
In one of the videoed attacks, a Mercedes is fired on at a distance of several hundred yards before it crashes into a civilian taxi. In another clip, a white civilian car is raked with machine gun fire as it approaches an unidentified security company vehicle.
A spokesman for Aegis confirmed the company was investigating to see if any of its employees were involved
