Police Capt. Mushtaq Khazim said the helicopter crashed into a house in a residential area of the city, apparently after being hit by a missile or a rocket, and that the four-member crew had not survived. State-run al-Iraqiya television showed what it described as live footage from the crash site showing black smoke rising from a two-story house and British soldiers sealing off the area. "We can confirm that there has been a helicopter crash in Basra," said Scott Green, spokesman at the British military center in Basra. He said no other information was available, including the type of aircraft, the number of crew members aboard or the cause of the crash. Khazim said no Iraqis in the house or the surrounding residential area had been hurt. Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
