The Iraqi capital Bagdat (Baghdad) set the stage for one of the bloodiest suicide attacks on Saturday July 16, since the US occupation.

A suicide bomber killed at least 60 people and wounded about 85 others near a mosque and a market in the town of Musayyib, 60 km south of Baghdad. The bomber blew himself up near a mosque causing a nearby fuel tanker to explode. The blast set neighboring houses on fire and caused serious damages to neighbouring shops. It also destroyed the Shiite mosque. The blast in Musayyib came a few days after another attack killed at least 24 children in a Shiite neighborhood. Earlier on Saturday, bombings occurred in different areas of Iraq killed at least 15 people, three of whom were British soldiers. Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, the first Iraqi prime minister to visit Tehran since the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq War, signaled messages of friendship to Iran, where he had been in exile for more than 10 years. Meanwhile, the US has been anxiously watching Iran-Iraq relations undergoing a recovery after Saddam Hussein's regime was overthrown. Important bilateral agreements will be signed during Shiite Prime Minister Jaafari's visit to Iran.
