The blast, which happened at about 7 a.m., broke windows and could be heard across the city, Jim Avila, an NBC News correspondent at the scene, told MSNBC. He said there were no signs on the building indicating that NBC had its headquarters there, but that it was no secret. The Iraqi police said the bomb was placed in a hut that housed a generator for the Aike Hotel. Lt. Col. Salman Karim of the Iraqi police said the bomb killed a Somali hotel worker. "It was a small bomb, because if it was a big bomb it would have destroyed the whole building," Colonel Karim told Reuters at the scene. MSNBC reported that an NBC soundman, David Moody, was slightly injured by flying glass that cut his face and arm. The American military said it had no immediate information on the bombing. On Monday, a suicide bomber blew himself up near the United Nations compound here, killing a security guard as well as himself. On Wednesday, a bomb apparently meant for an American convoy exploded as two civilian buses drove past, killing one Iraqi. Copyright 2003 The New York Times Company
