More than 4000 PoWs held: US
From correspondents in Qatar
27mar03

US forces in Iraq have now captured "well over 4000" Iraqi prisoners of war, a senior US commander has said.

Brigadier General Vincent Brooks, deputy director of operations at US Central Command in Qatar, that representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross would be able to visit the detainees "at their earliest convenience".
Asked about the number of prisoners now in US custody, Brooks said: "I would say we're well over 4,000."
