The military operation around the town of Beit Hanoun and the Jebalya refugee camp near Gaza City came amid reports that Palestinian militants fired rockets into Israel. There are no reports of casualties. Early Tuesday, Israeli forces pounded a training camp for Hamas militants near Gaza City, killing 14 trainees. Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia said there is bound to be retaliation for Israel's attack, and that such a response would be justified. The Israeli strike against Hamas came one week after the Islamist group carried out two suicide bus bombings in the southern Israeli town of Beersheba near the West Bank that killed 16 Israelis.
