Does Security Tape Show Oklahoma City Bombing?
Six days after the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma,City, the Secret Service reported that there were "security video tapes from the area” showing the truck exploding "three minutes and six seconds after the suspects exited the truck."
The information is in a log of agents' activities and evidence.
The document seems to suggest that convicted bomber Timothy McVeigh had an accomplice at the scene.
The government has insisted that McVeigh drove the truck himself and that it never had any video.
Several investigators and prosecutors who worked on the case tell The Associated Press they have never seen any such video footage.
They say this could be a case of significant evidence being hidden for years, or simply a misconstrued version of investigative leads that were often passed by word of mouth.
A Secret Service spokesman says the issue will be addressed this week at the state trial of bombing co-conspirator Terry Nichols. His lawyers have been trying to show that McVeigh had other help.
