Former CIA agent and Middle East specialist Robert Baer claimed on Al-Jazeera's People and Power 19th December 2006 that the US had knowledge that Iran requested and funded the Lockerbie attack on Pan Am 103. "It was grade A intelligence. It doesn't get any better." He continued, "Why target Libya? Because Iran was a tough target, and Libya an easy target. Look at Iran's population. Look at the threat posed to the Gulf, to oil. Two days after Lockerbie there was a transfer of $11 million from Iran to the PFLP-GC".
