Relations between House Republicans and Democrats become more bitter
Capitol Hill-AP -- House Republicans and Democrats may find it even tougher to overcome partisan disputes after a bizarre episode yesterday.
It began as a dispute over a pension bill in the House Ways and Means Committee.
Democrats complained of Republican strong-arm tactics and staged a boycott. One Democrat remained, and Republicans claim he used abusive and threatening tactics.
Republicans called in Capitol Hill police to restore order. But Democrats claim the police were used to end their boycott and evict them.
It ended up spilling onto the House floor with both sides pointing fingers.
Democrats accused Republicans of using police state tactics, while Republicans countered, saying Democrats created a circus atmosphere to score political points.
The pension bill was approved and could be considered by the full House next week.
