The Democrats holed up in an adjacent library and Rep. Bill Thomas, the committee's chairman, (R-Calif.) summoned the Capitol police Friday. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, then initiated a motion on the House floor, to rebuke Thomas and said, "It was about power, abuse of power." Democrats insisted that Thomas ordered the police to evict them from the library, the New York Times reports. The Republicans blamed Californian, Rep. Pete Stark, the lone Democrat who remained in the hearing room to monitor the proceedings after his colleagues left. Republicans said Thomas had to call police to restore order after Stark threatened Rep. Scott McInnis, (R-Colo.) and called him "a wimp" and "a fruitcake."
