France Probing Suspected Price-Fixing
Associated Press 02.27.08, 4:12 AM ET

PARIS -

Nine European and U.S. consumer products makers including Unilever, Procter & Gamble and Colgate Palmolive are facing suspicions of price-fixing in France, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

If found guilty, the companies could face fines of up to 10 percent of their annual worldwide revenue, possibly amounting to billions of euros (dollars), daily Le Figaro said.

The suspected collusion is believed to have begun in 2005, the report said. Others said to be suspected include U.S.-based Sara Lee and SC Johnson and Germany's Henkel, Reckitt Benckiser.

According to the report, the colluding companies also shared information about their customers.

France's Competition Council did not immediately comment. Spokespeople for several companies mentioned could not be immediately reached by The Associated Press.
