Officials at the plant would not comment. Eddie Smith, a reporter for WMOX radio in Meridian, told MSNBC TV the gunman, who was dressed in camouflage, shot 14 people all told, killing five of them, before turning one of his guns on himself. Smith quoted sheriff's officials as saying the shooting resulted from a domestic dispute. Lockheed Martin is the largest defense contractor in the United States. The corporation, with headquarters in Bethesda, Md., had sales of $24 billion in 2001. It employs about 125,000 people. The Meridian plant produces structural assemblies for the C-130J Hercules tactical transport airlift and the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter.
