6 killed in shooting at Miss. factory At least 8 others injured by Lockheed employee, authorities say BREAKING NEWS MSNBC MARION, Miss., July 8 — An employee dressed in camouflage and brandishing at least two weapons opened fire at a Lockheed Martin plant Tuesday, killing six people, including himself, and wounding at least eight others, authorities said. A DISPATCHER for the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department told The Associated Press that several other people were injured. Local blood banks issued an emergency call for blood.
Officials at the plant would not comment.
Eddie Smith, a reporter for WMOX radio in Meridian, told MSNBC TV the gunman, who was dressed in camouflage, shot 14 people all told, killing five of them, before turning one of his guns on himself. Smith quoted sheriff's officials as saying the shooting resulted from a domestic dispute.
Lockheed Martin is the largest defense contractor in the United States. The corporation, with headquarters in Bethesda, Md., had sales of $24 billion in 2001. It employs about 125,000 people. The Meridian plant produces structural assemblies for the C-130J Hercules tactical transport airlift and the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter.
