Palestinian sources: Israeli airstrike injures 3 Israeli military says it hit a weapons workshop in Gaza City
(CNN) -- Three bystanders were wounded Sunday when an Israeli helicopter gunship fired a missile at a house in Gaza City's Zeitoun neighborhood, according to Palestinian security and medical sources.
Video of the scene showed a young boy being treated for a minor wound on his arm. Palestinian medical sources said two others suffered minor injuries, and the video showed a damaged building.
The Israeli military said in a statement that its target was "a weapons workshop located in a residential building ... used by the Hamas terrorist organization and likely by other terrorist organizations to produce and develop a variety of weapons, notably Qassam rockets."
Hamas' military wing, Izzedine al Qassam, in the past has admitted responsibility for terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians as well as attacks against the Israeli military. Israel and the U.S. State Department consider Hamas a terrorist organization, though it also operates an extensive social services network in the territories.
A family crawled out of a window of a second story apartment that shared a wall with the targeted building. Children were lowered to a crowd below, before their mother and father climbed down a ladder to the rubble below.
Residents put out fires on the first floor as a crowd of bystanders surrounded the area and ambulances treated the wounded.
Sunday's strike came three days after a similar strike in the same area killed two Islamic Jihad militants.
