Iraqi Al-Sadr Supporters Protest Deadly Car Bombings
By VOA News
14 December 2007

Thousands of followers of radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr have rallied in the streets of Iraq to protest a triple car bombing Wednesday that killed at least 40 people and wounded about 125 more.

Protesters took to the streets in Baghdad and Basra Friday to denounce the attacks. There has been no claim of responsibility for the bombings in the mainly Shi'ite southern city of Amarah.

In other violence, the U.S. military in Iraq says two American soldiers were killed in separate incidents. The military says one soldier was shot in an attack in the capital Thursday, and another soldier died of wounds from a roadside bombing south of Baghdad.

Separately, the military says coalition forces killed three suspected terrorists and detained 12 others during operations Friday targeting al-Qaida networks in central Iraq.
