The U.S. military says one soldier died and seven were injured in the northern city of Mosul, where Saddam's sons, Uday and Qusay, were killed in a six-hour firefight with U.S. forces Tuesday. Another soldier was killed and two others wounded when a U.S. military convoy came under attack in Ramadi, west of Baghdad. So far, more than 40 U.S. troops have been killed in hostile fire since May 1, when President Bush declared major combat operations in Iraq to be over. Meanwhile, the United States and Britain say the deaths of Saddam Hussein's sons, who committed atrocities against the people of Iraq, are a welcome development for the future of the country. A White House statement said the two brothers can no longer cast, what it called, " a shadow of hate on Iraq." British Prime Minister Tony Blair said their deaths mark, "a great day for the new Iraq." Apparent celebratory gunfire was heard in Baghdad late Tuesday, after U.S. Army General Ricardo Sanchez announced that Uday and Qusay had been killed. General Sanchez, the commander of U.S. -led coalition forces in Iraq, is expected to provided more details about the operation at a news conference, Wednesday. The United States has offered a $25 million bounty for Saddam, whose fate is still unknown. There were also $15 million dollar bounty offer for each of the two Hussein brothers, who ranked numbers two and three on the U.S. list of most wanted Iraqis.
