College cancels Ritter's speech
Controversy overshadowed planned lecture

By Bill Lambdin

SCHENECTADY, N.Y., Jan. 30 - Schenectady County Community College has cancelled Scott Ritter's scheduled Feb. 12 speaking appearance. College officials say the controversy over Ritter has disrupted normal college operations.

THEY ALSO CITE the need for extraordinary security.
Earlier this month it was learned the outspoken opponent of a United States attack on Iraq was arrested two years ago. Police charged he was attempting to meet a 16-year-old girl for a sexual encounter.
The charges were dismissed without a plea.
The assistant district attorney involved was fired from her job two weeks ago.
The college does not get back the $4,000 it paid Ritter's agency to book him. NewsChannel 13 contacted Ritter by phone Thursday, but he would not reveal if would still receive his cut after his agent's fee.
