Nuclear Agency-Iran
US demands disclosure from Iran

(Vienna, Austria-AP, Sept. 8, 2003 3:30 PM) _ The International Atomic Energy Agency has opened a conference with US demands that Iran disclose its nuclear intentions.

The US is insisting Iran disprove it is running a secret nuclear weapons program. At unofficial evening meetings, allies Canada and Britain were sounding out other nations on a resolution that would call on Iran to provide full disclosure of its programs.

At a meeting of the IAEA's board of governors in Vienna, director-general Mohamed ElBaradei said Iran has been showing increased cooperation. But he says his experts still don't have enough information to determine the nature of Tehran's nuclear activities.

Iran's chief delegate has cautioned that too much pressure could backfire.

Tehran has dangled the possibility that it will sign a protocol opening its nuclear programs to full and unfettered IAEA inspection. But the delegate says that hinges on the outcome of the meeting.
