Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., warns nominating Howard Dean as the Democrat to face President George Bush in 2004 would be "a ticket to nowhere." At an appearance Monday at the National Press Club in Washington, Lieberman was asked about media attention paid the former Vermont governor. "A candidate who was opposed to the war against Saddam, who has called for the repeal of all of the Bush tax cuts -- which would result in an increase in taxes on the middle class -- I believe will not offer the kind of leadership America needs to meet the challenges that we face today," Lieberman said. Lieberman, one of nine Democrats competing for his party's nomination, amplified the concern of the Democratic Leadership Council, the centrist organization that propelled Bill Clinton to the White House, the New York Times reported. The council said Dean and to a lesser extent Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts are too far left and could lose in a landslide in 2004.
