India, Australia to sign MoU on counter-terrorism Press Trust of India Sydney, August 26
Realising the importance of joint action against terrorism, India and Australia will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on counter-terrorism during the four-day visit of External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha beginning on Wednesday.
The issue of terrorism and ways of enhancing bilateral relations in various sectors are likely to figure prominently in the talks Sinha will have with Australian leaders.
During his visit Sinha will meet Australian Prime Minister John Howard, his Australian counterpart Alexander Downer and Immigration Minister Phillip Ruddock.
Sinha will attend the Foreign Ministers Framework Dialogue in Adelaide on Thursday and sign a MoU on Counter Terrorism with Downer.
He will also meet Ruddock in Sydney on Wednesday to expedite the signing of MoU on co-operation between the two countries in the field of immigration.
Noting that this is only the second visit by an Indian foreign minister after the then minister Jaswant Singh's June 2001 visit, Indian High Commissioner to Australia RS Rathore hoped that the visit would add greater dynamism and substance to bilateral ties.
In Melbourne, Sinha will sign a MoU for co-operation in telecommunications with Australian Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts Richard Alston.
