Rep. Tauzin to head powerful drug lobby
Washington, DC, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Former House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Billy Tauzin has agreed to head the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.
The retiring Tauzin is taking the lucrative position a little more than a year following his negotiating with the group during the development of the massive Medicare prescription drug bill that Congress approved late last year.
Tauzin's committee had direct oversight of the pharmaceutical industry and he denies having discussions with the group during the drug bill negotiations.
Tauzin reportedly began fielding job offers after casting his final House vote. He accepted the group's offer this past weekend.
Previous reports placed Tauzin's salary package at around $2 million annually.
