Bomb at Muslim school linked to murder of filmmaker Last Updated Mon, 08 Nov 2004 10:48:21 EST
THE HAGUE - Police in the Netherlands say they suspect that an explosion at a Muslim school is related to the murder of a Dutch filmmaker.
The blast Monday shattered windows and blew the front door off the Tarieq Ibnu Zyad Islamic elementary school in Eindhoven, 120 kilometres south of Amsterdam. No injuries were reported.
Police suspect the attack was related to the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh in Amsterdam last Tuesday.
He had released a film that was highly critical of the way women are treated under Islam.
Eight suspected Muslim radicals have been arrested.
The school is believed to have links with a mosque that is allegedly a meeting place for Islamic extremists.
The murder of Van Gogh resulted in a series of attacks against Muslim targets on the weekend, including two attempts to burn down mosques.
But a spokesperson for the Dutch Internal Ministry says so far there is no need for any special security arrangements in Eindhoven.
