A Taliban spokesman claimed that Pakistan's Inter State Intelligence ordered the killing of abducted Indian engineer K. Suryanarayana, a claim that Pakistan denies. "Our grave concern is that Indians are being killed there and that has been brought to Pakistan's notice," said M.K. Narayanan, India's national security adviser. He said the government was not sure if the ISI was involved in Suryanarayana's killing on April 30, two days after his abduction by Taliban in Afghanistan. "The presence of the ISI is very large in Afghanistan ... but we are not sure if they were involved in Suryanarayana 's killing," Narayanan said, adding that there was no question of recalling Indians working in Afghanistan, but that security would be further improved. In other security-related news, Narayanan said that militancy in India had once been confined to Jammu and Kashmir, but was no spreading to other places, like Benaras and Bangalore. "There are therefore no options for demilitarization now, as we cannot compromise on our security there," the national security adviser said. © Copyright 2006 United Press International, Inc.
