'Not resistance fighters' LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Times has told its reporters to stop describing anti-American forces in Iraq as 'resistance fighters', saying the term romanticises them and evokes World War II-era heroism.
Ms Melissa McCoy, a Times assistant managing editor, told the staff in an e-mail message this week that the phrase conveyed unintended meaning and that 'insurgents' or 'guerillas' should be used instead.
She said in an interview on Wednesday that the memo followed a discussion among top editors at the paper. -- Reuters
