Pentagon Plans Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Exercise A large-scale chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear training exercise will be held at the Pentagon Thursday, July 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT. The exercise, called "Gallant Fox," will be staged in the South Parking Lot of the Pentagon and is open for media coverage. The purpose of this training event is to enable the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) to exercise emergency response units in a duty-day, real world scenario. It will provide valuable training for PFPA to better serve occupants of the Pentagon.
There will not be a general evacuation of the Pentagon during this exercise. Only pre-designated workforce employees will conduct a partial building evacuation as part of the exercise.
Media representatives who wish to cover the drill must be at the Corridor 2 pedestrian bridge in South Parking no later than 9:30 a.m. They also should have two forms of identification, one of which to show proof of media affiliation. Special exercise event armbands will be issued to members of the press that will allow them to cover the drill from certain vantage points.
Parking for broadcast satellite vehicles will be available starting at 7 a.m. on July 24 in the northbound lane of Fern Street, which runs through South Parking. All media vehicles parking in the area of the exercise will be subject to a security check.
The Pentagon Metro Station will not shut down during this exercise; trains and buses will continue to run as scheduled. Lanes 14, 15 and 20 in the South Parking Lot will be closed starting at midnight July 23 until 2:30 p.m. on July 24. In addition, half of the Hayes Street Parking Lot, across from Macy’s in Pentagon City, will be roped off for the exercise.
Media and the general public should heed signs posted by the Virginia Department of Transportation and the State Police detouring traffic from the regular ramps that lead to the Pentagon’s South Parking Lot.
The media point of contact for this training exercise is Glenn Flood, (703) 695-6294; e-mail: glenn.flood@osd.mil . Additional information on the exercise is available at http://www.dtic.mil/ref/BuildingCircular/PBM/pbm.htm .
