"BA 223 from Heathrow to Washington on Sunday and BA 263 from Heathrow to Riyadh on Monday have been cancelled on the advice of the British government," a BA spokesman said on Thursday, declining to give further details. He said the carrier had been in close contact with the government over the past 24 hours. He noted it was not the first time BA had cancelled flights this year over fears of terror attacks. British Airways, Air France and Continental Airways said at the beginning of this month they had cancelled several transatlantic flights because of suspected planned attacks by the al Qaeda network. Al Qaeda is held responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington using hijacked commercial airliners.
