Authorities: An Attack Could Come This Summer In A Major U.S. City LOS ANGELES — There is another terror warning from the government involving possible attacks on mass transit in the United States. A bulletin sent to law enforcement nationwide last night says terrorists might try to bomb buses and rail lines this summer in major cities. It doesn't name cities and cites preliminary intelligence as a source for the warning. It doesn't name cities and cites preliminary intelligence as a source for the warning.
The latest warning in the United States comes as officials in Spain found another bomb targeting a train. This less than a month after the commuter rail attack by terrorists resulted in nearly two-hundred deaths. The 26-pound bomb was found under the tracks connected to a detonator with a 450-foot cable.
The new terror warning to law enforcement in this country includes buses along with trains and subways as possible targets. The warning sent to law enforcement nationwide says terrorits could attempt to conceal explosives in luggage and carry-on bags, such as duffels and backpacks.
Its unclear what's different about the warnings sent in a bulletin to law enforcement this week and those issued after the attacks in Spain last month. It does however, cite preliminary and uncorroborated intelligence, indicating that terrorists might make bombs out of nitrate fertilizer and diesel fuel similar to what was used in the Oklahoma
After the bombing in Spain security was increased a train stations in Los Angeles County. A spokesman for the MTA tells me that there has been stepped up security on buses for several months, including undercover officers on buses and surveillance cameras. There are no plans at this point to step up security beyond what now exists.
