Green tea reduces risk of prostate cancer: study www.chinaview.cn 2003-11-05 20:12:50
CANBERRA, Nov. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Drinking green tea can reduce by one-third men's risk of contracting prostate cancer, according to a latest research.
The research was jointly conducted by scientists at Perth's Curtin University and Zhejiang Cancer Hospital in China.
The Australian Associated Press quoted researcher Andy Lee as saying on Wednesday that experimental findings show the antioxidants in the green tea, which serve to fight viruses and slow aging, are slightly more than in other types.
The study compared 130 Chinese men with prostate cancer with 274 men without the cancer.
Lee noted that green tea is the most prevalent in China where many people drink pure green tea as a natural remedy. And the incidence of prostate cancer there is very low, he pointed out.
The new finding followed the same research team's discovery in August last year that a cup of green tea every day can reduce a woman's risk of developing ovarian cancer by as much as 60 percent.Enditem
