1964 Summer George W. works on his father's Senate campaign in Texas. George Sr. runs as a Goldwater Republican and campaigns against the Civil Rights Act. He is overwhelmingly defeated after being portrayed by his opponent as a carpetbagger and a member of the Northeastern elitist establishment.
1978 November Bush wins the Republican primary but is beaten in the general election by Democrat Kent Hance who paints Bush as an outsider with a privileged Northeastern education. He goes back to the oil business.
