May 15, 1895 The Bush political dynasty begins with the birth in Columbus, Ohio, of Prescott Sheldon Bush, who will be the father of one president and the grandfather of another.
Aug. 6, 1921 Dorothy Walker marries Prescott Sheldon Bush in Kennebunkport, Maine. They will have five children together, including George Herbert Walker Bush.
June 12, 1924 George Herbert Walker Bush is born in Milton, Mass.
Jan. 6, 1945 Barbara Pierce marries George H. W. Bush in Rye, N.Y.
July 6, 1946 George W. Bush is born in New Haven, Conn.
1950 Prescott Bush loses Connecticut's 1950 senatorial election in a tight race.
1952 Prescott Bush defeats Abraham Ribicoff in a run to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Senator Brian McMahon.
1956 Prescott Bush is re-elected to the Senate. During his career, Bush was on the Senate Committee on Banking and Currency, the Senate Committee on Public Works, the Committee on Armed Services, a congressional Joint Economic Committee, and the Special Committee on Aging.
1961 Prescott Bush says he will not run for re-election.
1966 George H. W. Bush runs as a moderate Republican and is elected to Congress.
1970 George H.W. Bush loses Senate race to Lloyd Bentsen.
1971 George H.W. Bush is named U.N. Ambassador by President Richard Nixon.
Oct. 8, 1972 Prescott Bush dies of lung cancer at age 77.
1973 George H.W. Bush is named national chairman of the Republican Party.
1974 George H.W. Bush is named special envoy to China.
1975 George W. Bush graduates from Harvard Business School with an MBA degree.
1976 President Gerald Ford names George H.W. Bush CIA director.
Nov. 5, 1977 George W. Bush and Laura Welch are married in Midland, Texas.
1978 George W. Bush declares his candidacy for the Midland Congressional district. He wins the Republican primary and loses in the general election.
1980 George H.W. Bush becomes Ronald Reagan's vice presidential candidate.
1981 Reagan-Bush are inaugurated.
Nov. 25, 1981 After a complicated pregnancy, twin girls are born to George and Laura Bush. They are named for their grandmothers, Barbara and Jenna.
1989 George H.W. Bush inaugurated as president of the United States.
1994 George W. Bush is elected governor of Texas, defeating Ann Richards 53 percent to 46 percent.
1998 George W. Bush is re-elected governor of Texas.
Jan. 20, 2001 George W. Bush is sworn in as the 43rd President of the United States.
