REDLANDS: Museum closed to install AC Amid hot summer weather
The San Bernardino County Museum will be closed today through Thursday so officials can install temporary air-conditioning, museum officials announced.

The museum's current air-conditioning equipment, installed in 1974, is malfunctioning. The museum was already replacing that equipment, but it plans to install a temporary chiller to keep patrons comfortable and prevent damage to museum collections, officials said.

The museum will reopen Friday. A scheduled free-admission day Sunday, sponsored by Beaver Medical Clinic, will go ahead as planned, officials said.

For more information, call the museum at (909) 307-2669.

SAN BERNARDINO: An appeals panel considering protests over the selection process for an electronic-voting system is preparing its draft report, Assistant County Administrator John Goss said Monday.

The panel will announce its findings once the report is completed, Goss said. It is possible the report could be sent to the board later this week, in time for the board to consider approving a vendor for the system at its meeting on July 22, he said.

The panel is considering appeals by Ohio-based Diebold Inc. and a partnership between Virginia-based Maximus and Texas-based Hart InterCivic, which were passed over by a county selection committee for its recommendation.

The committee instead recommended Oakland-based Sequoia Voting Systems, which built the touchscreen voting system used in Riverside County. The two other contenders filed appeals, charging the selection panel violated provisions of the county's request for proposals.
