Wal-Mart Interested in Making More Acquisitions in Brazil Aug. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, is interested in further acquisitions in Brazil after its $300 million purchase in March of supermarket chain Bompreco, a company official said.
``Wal-Mart is willing to make other acquisitions in Brazil,'' Marcos Samaha, vice president for Wal-Mart's Supercenters and neighborhood market stores, said at a press conference in Sao Paulo, ahead of tomorrow's opening of a new Supercenter store. ``Brazil is one of the most important markets for Wal-Mart.''
Bentonville, Arkansas Wal-Mart is opening stores in Brazil this year at the fastest pace since it began business in the country in 1995, Samaha said. The company plans to open four stores in Brazil's southeast by year-end, bringing the total openings for this year in the country to six, he said. Last Updated: August 25, 2004 12:14 EDT
